What to Do When You Run Out of Dishwasher Soap
We’ve all been there: You cook and enjoy a big meal, load up the dishwasher, and realize you’re out of dishwasher detergent. There’s no way you’re going to wash all those pots and pans by hand. What do you do?
Before you run to the store, head to your kitchen pantry. All you need is a few common household products to create this dish washing detergent alternative:
- Regular dish soap
- Baking soda
We like this easy “recipe” because it doesn’t include not-so-common ingredients like borax, washing soda and citric acid. (Who has those lying around the house?) Follow these steps:
- Put approximately three drops of regular dish soap into the dishwasher’s soap cup
- Then, fill the cup about 2/3 of the way with baking soda
- Top off the soap cup with salt
- Run your dishwasher as you normally would
Your dishes should come out sparkling — yes, even without dishwasher soap! For more do-it-yourself dishwasher detergent recipes, click here. Is your dishwasher just not performing the way it used to?
