What To Do If Your AC Is Leaking
In Jupiter, Florida, summers can get pretty hot. So, when the temperature starts to rise, switching on your AC is a must. But what do you do if it starts to leak?
There are a lot of things that can cause your AC to leak. Some are minor repairs you can fix yourself, and others require assistance HVAC professional.
Replace the Drain Pan
One of the most common causes of a leaking air conditioner is a cracked, damaged or rusted drain pan. Luckily, it’s pretty simple to see if your drain pan is causing the issue with a flashlight. Before removing the drain pan to repair or replace it, make sure to use a wet/dry vacuum to remove the excess water first.
The Evaporator Coils Are Frozen Over
Every air conditioner contains evaporator coils. These coils freeze over for a number of reasons, which include:
- Clogged air filter – Dirty air filters interfere with the airflow, which is required to absorb the heat that passes through the coils. Without the proper airflow, these coils will freeze over and eventually melt. Make sure to check your air filters every six weeks to make they are clean.
- Low on refrigerant – When the level of refrigerant is low, it also reduces the pressure that’s exerted through the system. You’ll need to call a professional HVAC company to fix this issue.
