What NOT to Do with Your Home’s Electric

Posted on May 22nd, 2015 by Jupiter Tequesta

Lately it seems like there’s a do-it-yourself (DIY) solution to just about everything. Certain electrical projects — like fixing a lamp cord or replacing a phone jack — can be handled on your own. Others, not so much. Here’s what not to do with your home’s electric:

Electrical wiring. The US Fire Administration reports that 280 Americas die in electrical fires every year. Many of these fires are caused by improperly installed wiring and overloaded circuits. If you don’t know what you’re doing when it comes to electrical wiring, just leave it to the professionals!

What NOT to Do with Your Home's Electric

Replacing circuits. Not familiar with how electrical circuits work? Then attempting to extend or replace one is out of the question! It can be very dangerous if you don’t have the knowledge and experience necessary.

Connecting extension cords. Plugging multiple extension cords together is a big no-no. Doing so could lead to meltdown and even fire! If you must attach two extension cords (during an emergency, for example), only do it for a short period of time.
