What does it take to be an HVAC tech?

Job Overview

A technician doesn’t have the same day two days in a row…that’s what’s so great about the job! You will log in a lot of driving time, but once you arrive at your job site, that’s when the fun begins. The HVAC technician field has been seeing a steady increase for the past few years and is showing no signs of slowing down. Actually, it’s predicted to be a 21% increase by the early 2020s.

Tools You Need

You’ll encounter jobs that need quite a variety of tools — being prepared makes your job a lot easier.

  • Wrenches
  • Pipe cutters
  • Screwdrivers
  • Tape measures
  • Hammer
  • Monitoring instruments

You’ll also need to be familiar with a few job-specific tools as well, including carbon monoxide detector meters and hand seamers.

Job Requirements

Some states require only an HVAC Technician Certification while others only require job training. Find a community college that offers the certification course. Once you pass the exam, and give your paperwork to your local Services Department, you are now certified to work anywhere in the state (score!).

Make sure you do your research before applying to certain local companies. You want to be apart of a team that’s diligent, hardworking, and trustworthy — like Jupiter-Tequesta!
