Tankless or Traditional? What to Know When Looking for a Water Heater
The water heater is an often overlooked part of the home. However, this appliance plays a big role in your overall energy budget! In fact, about 30% of your home’s energy is consumed by heating water. Whether you are in need of a new water heater or you’re looking to upgrade to a newer system, you will need to decide between a tankless or a traditional water heater. Here are a few of the key differences between the two types of water heaters.
Tankless vs. Traditional
- Size –Tankless water heaters are much smaller in size than their traditional counterpart.
- Water Storage –Traditional water heaters have a tank that constantly stores all available hot water. Tankless water heaters do not have a tank, as the name implies.
- Limits –Tankless water heaters provide your home with unlimited hot water. Traditional water heaters are limited to the water that is heated inside of the tank. However, it is important to keep in mind that the water coming from your tankless water heater is not instant. It will require some time for the water to heat up.
- Cost –Tankless water heaters have a larger upfront cost. However, they could save you more money on energy costs in the long run.
