Prepare Your Home For Your Labor Day Weekend Vacation
Labor Day weekend means it’s time for one last summer season getaway. Whether it’s a short road trip or an extended vacation, there’s a list of things you have to do to get ready. Before you grab your bags and head out your front door, here are a few ways to make sure your house is in order.
Adjust your thermostat.
Your HVAC system will waste energy (and money) by running in an empty home. Homeowners in Florida should set their thermostat to 78 degrees (F) in the summer and 68 degrees (F) in the winter.
Clean out your fridge.
Throw away anything in your fridge that will perish while you’re away. And if you can, take it one step further and shut off your fridge altogether (it uses just as much energy as your HVAC system!).
Leave a light on.
You want to make your house look occupied, even though you’re actually out of town. For a short weekend, leave your LED lights on outside. For a longer trip, consider investing in a timer that can turn your lights on and off in staggered intervals.
There’s no need to worry while you’re on vacation!
