Plumbing Leaks That Can Attract Pests
Now imagine those same pests, but around your plumbing fixtures in rooms like your kitchen and bathroom (gasp!). This isn’t as uncommon as you may think. If there’s a leak, you’ll more than likely find pests as well.
Which pests are attracted to moisture?
- Book Lice
- Camel Crickets
- Carpenter Ants
Which plumbing fixtures should you keep an eye on?
1. Leaky Faucets
A sink faucet or shower head can leak near the handles or base where the piping connects. And most of the time, the leak is a very slow, yet persistent drip, so homeowners don’t think its anything serious. But it’s very important to check your faucets every month (including underneath the sinks!).
2. Basement Plumbing
If your home has a basement, this is where most of your plumbing runs through. For unfinished basements, you’re more likely to find pests hanging out down there and will need to call a professional ASAP. For finished basements, check for any brown spots on the ceiling — this is a sign that there’s a leak in your pipes and a technician will need to come and repair it.
