Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric Gives to Tent City Helpers
Did you know there are no emergency shelters in Martin County to provide housing for our homeless families, men or women? Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric is proud to award Tent City Helpers with $500 for our “Charity of the Month” contest to assist their efforts in shining a light on the homeless population in Martin County.
Tent City Helpers was founded on Dec 20, 2015 by Tony and Stacey Solomon. It was prompted by a conversation Tony and his stepson, Tyler, had after seeing two school aged girls enter the woods near a busy shopping center and learning they were “going home” – “So, what are you going to do about that?” was his question. Soon Tony and Stacey plus a few volunteers would be packing several carloads of supplies and distributing them to some of the homeless who had taken shelter into wooded areas in Martin County. Owner, Matthew Kuntz of Jupiter- Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric says, “Since we are still in hurricane season, this was a perfect time for Tent City Helpers to win this contest as the $500 award can go a long way with helping our homeless.”
There are now over 900 members of Tent City Helpers and their mission is to “assist in meeting the homeless’ immediate needs and work towards organizing appropriate housing for the homeless men, families and women in our local area.” According to recent statistics there are more than 750 people in Martin County alone that are homeless and more than 250 of those are children.
Every Monday, Tent City Helpers has “Take-out” (a Monday evening meal and outreach) they provide this weekly in addition to donating items on a continuous basis to make sure these homeless are provided for.
