#HolidayTips: Improve Electrical Safety This Holiday Season
The holidays are full of colorful decorations, time spent with loved ones, and warm family dinners. While we know that this can be a busy time of year, it’s important to take the time to really inspect your electrical holiday decor and other home electrical appliances in order to prevent house fires.
Here are a few electrical safety tips you’ll want to keep in mind through the holiday season so that you, your family and your home stay safe.
Holiday Safety Tips:
- Inspect Decorations for Damage – Cracked or damaged holiday lights can be an electrical fire hazard. Be sure to check for loose connections to prevent any electrical problems.
- Don’t Overload Your Outlets – Overloading your outlets can increase our fire hazard risk. Only plug one high-wattage appliance into an outlet at a time.
- Protect Your Cords – Your electrical cords should never be pinched by furniture or attached by nails/staples. Make sure that your cords are in good condition before plugging them in.
- Don’t Leave Space Heater Unattended – Some nights can be chilly. But don’t leave space heaters unattended! Always turn off a heater if you are leaving a room or going to sleep.
