#HolidayTips: How to Save Energy (and Money) This Holiday Season

Posted on December 6th, 2016 by Jupiter Tequesta

plumber tequesta fl | jupiter-tequesta air conditioning, plumbing & electricWith the holiday season well underway – most of our focus is going into prepping for holiday gatherings, running errands, and buying gifts. With all of that on our mind, we tend to neglect our energy-saving efforts. Whether you want to make sure that your energy bills don’t spike this season or you are new to energy efficiency, try to keep these tips in mind to save energy and money even as you celebrate.

Purchase energy-efficient gifts

There are plenty of energy efficient options on the market. Purchase ENERGY STAR qualified electronics such as, televisions, computers, and smart phone accessories. These gifts will keep on giving throughout the year.

Decorating efficiently

Try replacing your traditional incandescent lights for LED, or light emitting diode, holiday lights. The initial price of LED string lights are higher, but you end up saving more in the long run. LED lights use 75 percent less energy and can last up to 10 times longer than traditional light bulbs.

Turn it down or off

Cooking is a major part of the holiday season and for most dishes, you don’t need your oven on as long – or set as high – as the recipe calls for. Sometimes, preheating isn’t even necessary. Just remember, keep that oven door closed! Every time you open it up to check on your dish, the oven needs time, and energy, to heat back up to the proper temperature.

Give your furnace the day off

At least once before the New Year, your home will be filled with guests. Keep the temperature in your home comfortable by turning off your furnace! A houseful of people combined with putting your kitchen into overdrive will help level the temperature so your furnace won’t have to work so hard.

Don’t neglect the small appliances

While you may need the oven for your bigger dishes, don’t forget about about your other kitchen appliances that can work just as well – think, toaster oven, microwave, or warming plate. Putting these smaller appliances to work can mean significant energy savings. A toaster oven can use up to half the energy of a stove.

We hope you have a happy holiday season, filled with energy and money savings! If you run into any electrical, heating, or plumbing problems while celebrating, don’t hesitate to call the professionals at Jupiter Tequesta – 561.747.5740. Visit our website to learn more about our services.
