#HolidayTips: How to Hang Outdoor Christmas Lights

Posted on December 1st, 2016 by Jupiter Tequesta

The holiday season is here! Will you be hanging up outdoor lights to decorate? If so, you will want to follow these steps to make sure that things go smoothly.

How to Hang Outdoor Christmas Lights:

Have a Plan

Consider your holiday decorating design before you start hanging lights. Pick a focal point — like an entryway — so that your holiday lights are eye-catching, without being overwhelming.

Use Outdoor Extension Cords & Lights

Look for extension cords and string lights that are specially designed for outdoor use.

Consider LEDs

If you don’t already have string lights purchased, consider choosing LED lights. These will save money on energy costs and you don’t have to worry about them overheating.

Check Your Lights

Inspect your holiday lights for frayed or damaged cords and throw away any that are problematic.

Test the Lights

Just  because the lights don’t look damaged, doesn’t mean they will all work. Test the lights before you go up on a ladder to hang them outside.

Hang Your Lights!

Attach your lights to your gutters using an all-purpose light clip. If you are hanging lighting on trees, you can use a hanging pole to get to those hard-to-reach spots. For railings – consider choosing deck clips that will help keep the lights in place.
