Don’t Fall for This Air Conditioning Scam!
“If someone claiming to be with Florida Power & Light Co. wants to give you a free or bargain-priced air conditioning system, don’t believe it,” warns the Palm Beach Post. Residents in our area are falling for the scam, paying double the normal asking price. The imposters are specifically targeting the elderly.
Bill Orlove, spokesman for FPL, told the Palm Beach Post that the company doesn’t even sell air conditioners. If you’re unsure about whether or not you’re talking to an FPL representative, look for an ID badge or give FPL a call for verification.
So who’s behind the scam? It appears to be a company called Green Club, located at 1750 N. Florida Mango Road, West Palm Beach. The business’ representatives are filling out credit applications on behalf of their clients, putting them thousands of dollars in debt.
Don’t fall for this air conditioning scam! Stay away from unfamiliar salespeople. The customer should always initiate the purchase, not the other way around.
