Do You Have a Water Leak?

Posted on January 9th, 2019 by Jupiter Tequesta

Water leaks are among the most common plumbing issues. Fortunately, this issue is easily fixed in most cases. Taking the proper steps will ensure that a water leak does minimal damage to your home. You will need to do the following if you have a leak.

Check Your Water Meter

The first thing that you will need to do is check your water meter. If you see the leak indicator moving, then this is a sign that you have a leak. You can also look at the meter and then check it again one or two hours later. If the water meter has moved, then you likely have a leak.

Shut Off the Water Valve

Turning off the main water valve will prevent the leak from doing any more damage. You will need to take the following steps to turn off the main water valve.

1. Find the main shutoff valve. It is typically located near the main water pipe. You will likely find it in your utility room or kitchen. The valve may be outside.

2. Turn off the shutoff valve by turning it clockwise. You can apply some elbow grease if the valve is stiff.

Call the Plumber

You will need to call the plumber to fix the leak. A plumber will be able to identify where the leak is coming from and use the appropriate solution. Furthermore, a plumber can prevent leaks from occurring in the future.
