Dishwasher Maintenance Tips
Has your dishwasher’s performance declined recently? If so, your appliance could very well need a little TLC. Follow these easy steps to care for your dishwasher and get it working like new:
1. Clean & deodorize
Every once in a while apply household cleaner to a warm rag and wipe down the space between your dishwasher’s door and the tub’s bottom. This space is prone to buildup of food particles, which can lead to mold growth. You may even want to use a pipe cleaner to fully remove any debris.
2. Look for a filter
Some dishwashers have a filter. If yours does, it can probably be found beneath the lower spray arm. Be sure to inspect and clean this piece periodically. You may need to refer to your unit’s owner’s manual.
3. Fix broken dish racks
Dish racks can easily break — especially plastic tips. Inspect your dishwasher for broken pieces, and purchase replacement parts ASAP. You can even pick up touch-up paint to prevent rust and keep your dishwasher looking great.
4. Avoid overloading
You’ve heard it before, but it bears repeating: Don’t overload your dishwasher! Doing so not only restricts water spray, but also can damage the dish rack.
