Common Causes of Hot Spots in Your Home

Posted on June 10th, 2020 by Jupiter Tequesta

Have you been noticing certain parts of your home feel warmer than others? These hot spots could be a sign of more significant issues. Luckily, figuring out what’s to blame and how to fix it is easier than you might think. Here are some things to consider:

Air Leaks:

Causes: If you have some air leak in your home, the cold air can be getting out while warm air gets in. Your HVAC system won’t circulate the temperature accurately, leaving hot spots throughout the house.

How to fix: Make sure you seal vulnerable areas inside your home where air can leak out of. This includes the areas surrounding your doors and windows. These spots are usually the most at risk.

Dirty Air Filter

Causes: Uneven and reduced airflow can easily lead to hot spots, as the cold air isn’t flowing the way it naturally should be. A dirty filter will cause this issue, since your HVAC system will be bogged down with dirt and debris, reducing airflow and putting a strain on your system.

How to fix: Get your filter cleaned or replaced! Regular HVAC maintenance will ensure proper airflow and cleaner air, which is safer for you and your family and better for your unit, too.

Obstructed Air Duct

Causes: Your air flows through your system’s air ducts, so if there is a blockage or debris build-up, it can’t get through. Cold air will not be able to enter your home and circulate as it should.

How to fix: Like dirty air filters, when it comes to dirty ducts, all you have to do is get it cleaned as well. You can start by first checking if your ducts are broken or clogged, and then move on to calling a professional if need be.
