Bathroom Showerhead Buying Guide

Posted on January 18th, 2017 by Jupiter Tequesta

Today’s showerheads are anything but standard. From sleek handheld units to stand-up spas, the bathroom hardware aisle has quite a few more options than once before. Learn all about showerheads so you can determine which one will work best in your bathroom.

Types of showerheads
Multi-setting – This type of showerhead allows you to adjust the flow pattern to as many as 12 settings including, mist, massage, pulsing, and wide and narrow stream.
Single-setting – These simple showerheads only provide one setting and tend to cost much less than the multi-setting models.
Shower towers – A shower tower is comprised of multiple types of showerheads. In order to abide by the federal limit of energy use, you can’t turn on all the heads or sprays at once.

Most showerheads are made of metal, solid brass, or plastic with a chrome or colored finish. Showerhead finishes come in a variety of different colors, including:
Oil-rubbed bronze
Brushed or polished chrome
Brushed or polished nickel

Environmental considerations
The Environmental Protection Agency has limited showerheads to a flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute in order to conserve both water and energy. Looking to go the green route? Look for showerheads that have a WaterSense label attached. You’ll end up saving water and money in the long run.
