iStock_000039591684_MediumMemorial Day is right around the corner. Are you planning on having a BBQ with your friends and family? You’ll want to keep a few BBQ essentials out of your drain and out of your garbage disposal. Here are a few tips to make sure that your celebration goes smoothly.

Keep These Foods Out of Your Sink:

  • Macaroni Salad –Starchy foods like pastas can expand and stick to the sides of your garbage disposal, clogging the kitchen sink drain.
  • BBQ Ribs – The leftover bones on your ribs can damage the blades of your garbage disposal.  The metal blades can’t cut through the bone.
  • Celery – Adding celery to your salad? Be sure to keep it out of the sink. Stringy foods like celery can wrap around the garbage disposal blades and keep it from working efficiently.
  • Grease – Don’t dump BBQ grease down the kitchen drain. Grease may look like a liquid, but when it cools it can harden and stick to the walls of your kitchen plumbing, causing your sink to drain slowly.
