Air Conditioning Maintenance Tips

Posted on March 17th, 2015 by Jupiter Tequesta

Spring is almost here! If you haven’t utilized your cooling system over the past few months, you may want to give it some love before cranking up the A/C. We at Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric have compiled the best air conditioning maintenance tips and put them into one handy post.

Replace its filters

“The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters,” reports the U.S. Department of Energy. A clogged or dirty filter can obstruct air flow and reduce your system’s efficiency. In fact, using a clean filter can reduce your cooling system’s energy consumption by up to 15 percent.

Clean your vents

Outside of regular dusting, it’s important to give your air conditioning system’s vents a good clean occasionally. If your air ducts look particularly dirty, you may want to call in a professional for a deep clean.

Check refrigerant levels

According to Apartment Therapy, “Your air conditioner isn’t consuming freon coolant, so under ideal conditions, the freon would never need to be filled or changed.” With that said, leaks are always possible. If freon levels are low, call Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric at (561) 747-5740. We’ll be able to detect leaks, which are especially common with older air conditioning systems.

Clean its evaporator and condenser coils

Dirt buildup within your air conditioning system has many implications:

  • Reduces your A/C’s ability to cool your house
  • Causes your system to run longer and work harder
  • Increases energy costs
  • Decreases your system’s lifespam

If you’re not comfortable performing any of these air conditioning maintenance tips on your own, call in the experts of Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric. We’re available 24/7:
