3 Reasons Why Your Shower Might Whistle

Posted on July 1st, 2015 by Jupiter Tequesta

Nothing can ruin an otherwise peaceful shower like a ear-piercing whistle. You don’t have to just deal with it! Below, we outline three reasons your shower might be making a whistling noise and what to do about it:

1. Your shower head pipe is backed up

“If you have hard water and don’t have a water softener, the noise could be attributed to the building up of water pressure because the shower head is clogged or has calcified as a result of the minerals found in hard water,” advises Angie’s List. To clear it out, remove your shower head and soak it in white vinegar. You might also want to take this opportunity to clear out the shower arm. Simply turn on both the hot and cold water and watch the debris fall out.

2. You need to replace your shower cartridge

Your shower might whistle if the cartridge is used past its life expectancy. To replace this piece, you’ll have to call in a professional plumber. Dial (561) 747-5740 to get in touch with the experts of Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric.

3. Your shower head needs to be updated

A whistling noise might also be due to a large volume of water flowing through your pipes. If you replace your shower head with a low-flow one, the whistling noise may just go away! If you don’t feel comfortable replacing a shower head on your own, don’t hesitate to contact us.
