Why My Air Conditioner Leaks Water

Posted on May 9th, 2016 by Jupiter Tequesta

AC Repair JupiterIs your air conditioner leaking water?  This is a fairly common A/C problem.  In fact, nearly 90% of all central A/C service calls are related to leaks!

If you notice that your air conditioning system is leaking, it’s important that you have it fixed quickly and efficiently.  Letting even a small leak go unchecked can cause damage to your air conditioning system.  Not sure what’s causing your leak?  Here are a few of the most common  reasons.

Common Causes:

Your Overflow Pan is Damaged - Your overflow pan is responsible for catching any condensation from your A/C unit.  If there are any small holes or cracks in the pan, water will leak through.

Your Filter Is Clogged - When was the last time your changed your air conditioner’s filter?  These filters can become clogged with dirt, dust and debris over time.  If your filter needs to be replaced, it can cause ice to form on the unit’s evaporator coils.  When this ice melts, you’ll see water leaking out of your system.

Your Condensate Line is Clogged - The condensate line is responsible for draining condensation from the overflow pan.  It may drain the water outside or directly into your home’s drain pipe.  However, if your condensate line is clogged, water will back up and floods the overflow pan.

Having trouble with your air conditioning system?  Don’t worry, our technicians are here to help with all of your AC repair needs.   At Jupiter-Tequesta Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric Inc. we offer residential air conditioning repair and air conditioning replacement services 24 hours, 7 days a week.
